Elara - Vintage Woven Wall Hanging Kilim Tapestry
While sourcing vintage rugs, Sarah carefully selects the most exquisite, statement-making pieces - woven artworks in their own right. Elara is one such find.
Handwoven using the traditional Soumak technique, this exceptional kilim boasts a chalky white base adorned with a joyful, naïve pattern of small animals and people motifs, evoking the essence of village life. Rich in character and storytelling, Elara captures the spirit of its origins, where every thread holds a piece of history.
Unlike regular kilims, the Soumak weave gives this piece a thicker, more robust texture, with a smooth front and a beautifully tactile reverse. Dyed using natural pigments, its colours remain vibrant, standing the test of time as both a decorative piece and a treasured heirloom. Perfect for a serene, contemporary space or layered into a warm, eclectic interior, Elara brings a sense of heritage, artistry, and quiet wonder to any setting. A tapestry woven with tradition, charm, and timeless appeal -Elara invites you to take a closer look.
You have options for hanging these smaller Kilims. By default, they come with four or five ring clips that can be easily looped over screw-in wall hooks or attached to a wooden baton. Alternatively, Sarah can add contrasting distressed wooden batons, painted with eco-friendly Edward Bulmer paint, as shown in the final few images. These are just two suggestions, but with their lightweight design, there are countless other ways to hang and display these beautiful pieces to suit your style.
The resulting art is completely unique, and will never be seen in another home. The wall hangings can be hung as a statement on their own, or amongst a mix of styles of art to create an eclectic wall decor scheme. They can of course still be used on the floor too!
The bold colours and distinctive designs of Kilim tapestries are intentional, reflecting the history and culture of the tribal communities that made them. That’s why every piece sourced is a one-off, a piece of original art capturing the history and story of its maker that takes on a new life as a feature in your home.
